Media Center Overview

We hope that you will visit the Media Center at Saint Stephens often! The media center is available for teacher and student use. It is here to help you with research and completion of your assignments. You can find and check out materials, work on a computer or even browse our fiction section to find a great book. 

The media center is open before and after school and you are welcome to come by during your lunch time or any time during the day if you have permission from your teacher. Hope to see you here soon!

Media Center Hours 
Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 7:45-4:15
Friday & Wednesday 7:45-3:30

DO NOT MAKE PLANS TO STAY AFTER SCHOOL ON WEDNESDAY OR FRIDAY IN THE LIBRARY. (Exception to this is on Fridays when we have a movie. See the Book to Big Screen page for those dates.)

Student Sign-in
Students are welcome to work in the library any time they need to. We ask that you sign in at the laptop on the entryway table so that we know who you are and that you are in the library.  This table is located at the corner of the circulation desk. You can also scan one of the sign in QR codes with your phone and sign in with your phone.

Circulation
You will find many materials available for check out here in the media center. You can check out the following items for the indicated time period:
Books - 2 weeks
Magazines – overnight
Reference materials – overnight
Calculators – semester
 If you are checking out a supplementary novel for your English class, the check out period may be different. 

Overdue Items
While there are no overdue fine charges, if you habitually have overdue materials or have excessively overdue materials, you will not be allowed to check out more until the overdue items have been returned. Overdue items could result in the loss of certain school privileges, including participation in prom and graduation. So turn in those overdue library books and calculators!

Bookmobile Fridays

Can't make it to the library? No problem! We'll bring the library to you! Every Friday, we have a cart of books and a media assistant available in the cafeteria to check a book out to you. If there is a book you want and it's not on the cart, fill out a form and we will check it out to you and deliver right to your class! Reading has never been easier!

Creation Station

We have a maker space with TONS of craft stuff for students to use. You can use this to make projects for class or just to make something fun for yourself! It is open for use before school, after school, during lunch or during class with your teacher's permission. We have tons of books available with ideas and lots of upcycling materials as well. Book Club

We have a Teen Fiction Book Club that is open to all students. We meet every Monday after school to talk about books we like and to discuss books that we are reading as a club. If you like reading teen fiction, come check us out! You can talk to Ms. Cordeiro in the media center for more information.

Animé Club

We have an Animé Club that is open to all students. We meet every other Monday after school to watch movies, do crafts and talk about Animé and Manga. If you are interested, come check us out! You can talk to Ms. Cordeiro in the media center for more information.

Battle of the Books
This year, NC has finally started High School Battle of the Books! We are reading all the books in the fall and we will start weekly practices in January. If you are interested, see one of the librarians to start reading books. We will meet once a month in October, November and December just to check on everyone, so listen for those meetings on the announcements.

From Book to Big Screen Film Series

One Friday every month, we show a free movie that started as a book! We also serve free popcorn! All you have to do is sign up in the library if you plan to stay. (So we know how much popcorn to make!) There are drinks and candy available for purchase at $1 each. Check the Book to Big Screen tab for dates and movies.
